鋁礬土又稱礬土或鋁土礦，主要成分是氧化鋁，系含有雜質(zhì)的水合氧化鋁，是一種土狀礦物，白色或灰白色，因含鐵而呈褐黃或淺紅色。密度2.4-2.5g/cm3，硬度1～3，不透明，質(zhì)脆，極難熔化，不溶于水，能溶于****溶液，主要用于煉鋁，制耐火材料。
熟料為灰白淺黃及深灰色，它主要用于高鋁質(zhì)耐火材料，也可用來制作電熔棕剛玉。高鋁礬土熟料是按AL2O3含量及Fe2O3、TiO2、CaO+MgO、K2O+Na2O等雜質(zhì)含量和熟料體積密度與吸水等項指標來分級的。
輕燒鋁礬土，又稱輕燒粉，是凈水劑聚合氯化鋁的原材料，是鋁礬土經(jīng)過加工生產(chǎn)出來的礦粉材料，主要成分是氧化鋁，系含有雜質(zhì)的水合氧化鋁，是一種土狀礦物。白色或灰白色，因含鐵而呈褐黃或淺紅色。密度3.9～4g/cm3，硬度1～3，不透明，質(zhì)脆。極難熔化。不溶于水，能溶于****溶液。
(1)生礬土，即礬土原礦石(天然沉積巖類)。
(2)熟礬土，將生礬土經(jīng)高溫煅燒后(1200～1700℃)稱為熟礬土。
高鋁礬土熟料是按AL2O3含量及Fe2O3、TiO2、CaO+ MgO、K2O+Na2O等雜質(zhì)含量和熟料體積密度與吸水等項指標來分級的。
1、煉鋁工業(yè)。用于國防、航空、汽車、電器、化工、日常生活用品等。
2、精密鑄造。礬土熟料加工成細粉做成鑄模后精鑄。用于軍工、航天、通訊、儀表、機械及醫(yī)療器械部門。
3、用于耐火制品。高鋁礬土熟料耐火度高達1780℃，化學(xué)穩(wěn)定性強、物理性能良好。
4、硅酸鋁耐火纖維。具有重量輕，耐高溫，熱穩(wěn)定性好，導(dǎo)熱率低，熱容小和耐機械震動等優(yōu)點。用于鋼鐵、有色冶金、電子、石油、化工、宇航、原子能、國防等多種工業(yè)。它是把高鋁熟料放進融化溫度約為2000～2200℃的高溫電弧爐中，經(jīng)高溫熔化、高壓高速空氣或蒸汽噴吹、冷卻**成了潔白的“棉花”——硅酸鋁耐火纖維。它可壓成纖維毯、板或織成布代替冶煉、化工、玻璃等工業(yè)高溫窯爐內(nèi)襯的耐火磚。消防人員可用耐火纖維布做成衣服。
5、以鎂砂和礬土熟料為原料，加入適當結(jié)合劑，用于澆注盛鋼桶整體桶襯效果甚佳。
6、制造礬土水泥，研磨材料，陶瓷工業(yè)以及化學(xué)工業(yè)可制鋁的各種化合物。
